ngā wai o Waiapu,
Whiti atu koe hine
marino ana e.E hine e
hoki mai ra.
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e. Tuhituhi taku reta
tuku atu taku rīngi,
Kia kite tō iwi
raru raru ana e. Whati whati taku pene
ka pau aku pepa,
Ko taku aroha
mau tonu ana e. E kore te aroha
e maroke i te rā,
Mākūkū tonu i
aku roimata e.
||They are agitated
the waters of Waiapu,
But when you cross over girl
they will be calm.Oh girl
return to me,
I could die
of love for you. I have written my letter
I have sent my ring,
so that your people can see
that I am troubled. My pen is shattered,
I have no more paper
But my love
is still steadfast. My love will never
be dried by the sun,
It will be forever moistened
by my tears.
Mocking ourselves whenever we can.
Especially in our TV ads.
And we have no shame about dragging famous people into the fun.
Julian Dennison is one of our best exports. His role in Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of the best ever in Kiwi film making.

Love hearing this in another language. It does not lose its charm one bit. And their voices are like honey.
Just one more…seeing as Christmas is nearly here…this time in Woodland Cree…enjoy.
I apologise ahead of time for this one…but it has to be seen [& heard] to be believed.
To make up for THAT…here is a lovely version.
Gregorian & Amelia Brightman – Peace on earth (little drummer boy).
This really is a beautiful version. I know…it is not only Little Drummer Boy, but the combination is just joyful. Enjoy !!!
There was no way I could not include a Chipmunk version of this song…just no way.
I will forever be an ALVIN fan.
Twentieth-Century Fox Records label contracted Harry Simeone asking that he make a Christmas album in 1958. Simeone assembled a group he called “The Harry Simeone Chorale” and began his search for material. Simeone was introduced to an obscure song by friend and credited song co-author Henry Onorati, titled “Carol of the Drum”. Simeone changed the title to “The Little Drummer Boy”. He recorded the song for his album Sing We Now of Christmas. The single “The Little Drummer Boy” quickly became extremely popular and rose to number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Sorry it took so long to post a new version…but life has a way of getting in the middle and throwing all good intentions out the window.
I love this version…hope you do too.
How about a little rastafarian version ???
Yes there is one…and here it is.
Interesting isn’t it !!!
And now for a version from New Zealand’s own Hayley Westenra…enjoy !!!!
After my last slightly humorous post I thought it was time to get a bit more serious.
How many of you knew that ‘Little Drummer Boy’ was originally titled the ‘Carol of the Drum’ ?
The first official recording of this song was by the Trapp Family Singers. Yes indeedy…that Trapp family that Julie Andrews made famous in Sound of Music.
So here is their version.
You might notice that instead of “the ox and lamb kept time” the Trapp Family Singers sing “the ox and ass kept time” which was as it was originally written by Katherine Davis in 1941. There is a very interesting story about some plagiarism of this song, which I will tell you during this month of the Little Drummer Boy, once I check out that it is true.
Hope you enjoy.
