I watched this last night. Up front I want to say I am a HUGE Leo fan. But I will admit when he gets it wrong…God how I hated the movie The Beach. But when he gets it right he really gets it right.

He got it right with The Wolf of Wall Street. I was actually howling with laughter at some of it.

With all the crap that goes on in Wall Street of course you should hate these guys…right ???

I was actually rooting for Jordan Belfort in the end. I know…but what can I say. The guy was so screwed up about wealth and drugs and sex that he becomes the perfect anti-hero that you end up loving a little bit.

If you want to see a real life commentary of the damage this guy and his work buddies most certainly caused then you will have to wait for a documentary. But as far as entertainment goes this film ticks all the boxes for me.

The cast is brilliant.

Jonah Hill as Donnie Azoff is a masterpiece of acting. One minute the guy had me rolling with laughter the next I wanted to hit him with a two by four. All the while completely mesmerized by his character…almost as much as Leo’s.

Matthew McConaughey makes a small but oh so Matthew appearance…so for you fans out there…

The cinematography is breathtaking. I love the script. It is fast, funny and there are so many really clever little bits in there . I will be watching for more of Terence Winter’s scripts. As a writer there is not much I love more than a really good book or script.

Rob Reiner as Jordan’s Dad Max does a superb job. Right from the moment you meet his character in the movie you are under his spell.

And brilliantly cast as Aunt Emma, the ever so wonderful Joanna Lumley. Boy was I jealous of Joanna…getting to get ever so close to the delicious Mr Di Caprio.

Please do yourself a favour and go see this film. You won’t regret it. I sure didn’t.

And I have to say it was lovely seeing Leo up there gripping his Golden Globe. He really did deserve it for this one. Now if only I can bring myself to watch The Great Gatsby. I am fearful about that one.

  2. I saw this movie on Saturday. For an “R” rated movie I was a little shocked by the nudity. Other than that, I laughed my head off. I went with my daughter and it was the funnest movie we have seen in a very long time. There were so many funny scenes. For me the funnest was when he got so high on drugs, he had to craw to his car and roll down the steps. Leo deserved his award, he was EXCELLENT in this part.
    I would go see it again.

    1. Oh that was so hysterical. And so well done. I loved the scene with his wife in the nursery…that had me roaring with laughter. I want to watch it again to see what I missed the first time. I know it wasn’t meant to be funny, but I was laughing when Donnie was choking in the kitchen…that was brilliant.

      1. So were we. Especially with Popeye on the TV. We are going again as well. There was so much to see and digest in one outing. I suggest it to anyone who wants a good belly laugh. My daughter and I are still laughing every time we remember something else.

    1. Wait to you see what is happening in the scene. OMGiddy aunt…hilarious, and so not what you would expect…well sort of. Hehehehehehe. Can’t wait to see MM in ‘The Dallas Club’. That is next on my list. BTW…you would love ‘Saving Mr Banks’. Colin Farrell has a role and he is brilliant in it. So too is Emma Thompson.

    1. Love to hear what you think of it when you do Amy. I loved ‘Saving Mr Banks’, but then ‘Mary Poppins’ is still a favourite of mine. And Colin Farrell is always easy to watch. Goodness he looked so young in it !!!

    1. Go and see it PP…you really won’t regret it at all. Best movie I have seen in yonks. Though…I have to say that I also just saw ‘The Dallas Buyers Club’ and that was brilliant in a totally different way. Cried like a baby at different moments. What a story.
      The spuds…they are doing good. Just waiting for the tops to yellow and die of so I can harvest. Will take some photos when I do, and when I cook the yummy little blighters.

  13. We hope to see WofWS this weekend! Can’t wait from everything I’ve heard, and now your review. Do not hesitate to see The Great Gatsby, by the way; I was hesitant too after the initial version with Robert Redford, but Leo did a great job as well in this movie.
    There are so very many good movies recently. I can’t wait to get to them all. I really want to see Blue Jasmine right away too….love all Woody Allen movies.

      Blue Jasmine…OMG…WOW…Woody did it again. Never saw the twist coming at the end. Love Woody Allen. The Daughter adores him and she has got me watching and he is so good.

      Also saw ‘Enough Said’, but honestly…not sure what all the hype is about. Maybe I have just seen too many other GREAT movies lately so I expect a lot. One film you should watch is a movie called…’It Won’t Last A Year’. Watched it the other night with The Son, we laughed, and said ‘OMG…WTF???’ a lot. Very clever.

  14. I can’t wait to see this one. I’m a huge Leo fan. I have to say, I rather enjoyed Gatsby. I thought I wouldn’t, but I liked it. It’s a little over the top at times, but I expected that. I think you have to be in the right frame of mind when you watch it.

  16. Ok. I will watch it then. My daughter said she’s watching it too.,after all, it IS Leo. As for Gatsby, I watched it at home. You have to like Baz Luhrmann too. We do. So, it worked for us.

    1. Good !!! I just watched Gatsby, and I did love it. I do like Baz Luhrmann movies, though I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch some of them. I loved his ‘Romeo + Juliet’, but not so much ‘Australia’.

      1. I hated “Australia.” Loved Romeo + Juliet. I even liked Moulin Rouge.

        We did get to see Wolf. Yes, yes, yes. It’s Leo. What else can I say? And Scorsese at his best when he’s obsessing over something. And no, it did not make me sympathetic of Wall Street scumbags. I just pitied them.
