World Animal Day.

World Animal Day is celebrated around the world each year on October the 4th. It originally started in Florence, Italy in 1931 at a convention of ecologists. Today, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are held in locations all around our world. The 4th of October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it happens to be the feast day of Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment.

So in our house the furry beasts are all a flutter…as you can plainly see from these photos.

  1. Right back atcha Jo!
When I was a very young child, I read a book about St Francis of Assissi – how he could communicate with animals and felt at one with all creation; a wonderful book that has left a lasting impression on me to this day. It must have been the start of my love affair with animals.
Each and every one of your animals are gorgeous.

  2. Lovely portraits of your animals, Jo! I was away for the weekend, but the catholic churches where I was staying were having “The blessing of the animals” where people were bringing their pets to church to be blessed…
