New Zealand

Tonight I am proud to be a New Zealander.

I watched for hours the debate in our parliament. Both sides spoke eloquently…with passion…with belief…but right prevailed. ALL New Zealanders will soon have the right to marry in this country and I could not be prouder of our stance for human rights.

It has never mattered to me who someone loves…now it will not matter to the law.

I weep for joy that finally in this country people have the right to not only love but declare their love no matter their sexual orientation.

  1. Congratulations, New Zealand. I have never understood why who marries who should be of any other concern than those marrying each other. It’s called progress but should be an obvious right.

  2. The same is happening here in the States as our Supreme Court is now debating the legality of California’s Prop 8, which bans gay marriage in the state, and the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). The groundswell is already on, though, and the majority of Americans support gay marriage, except the zealous right-wing religious extremist kooks, of course.
Bottom line: like you said, this is not a matter of sexual preference … this is a matter of basic human rights!!! Let’s see what happens!

There are two things I know for certain. One: Bert and Ernie are gay. Two: I want to hear your opinion.
