There are differing ways in which we work.

It is part of what makes life such an interesting journey.

In Tauranga this man was performing on a street corner for donations. He and his bike were covered in a grey mud-like substance. His eyes were mesmerizing if also creepy !! And he stole my cellphone.

These volunteers spent the day at a local Health Expo trying to educate others about H.I.V. and A.I.D.S. I was sitting across from them with a friend who was providing information on Asthma. We asked them to provide a demonstration which they giggled about between themselves.

My friend…educating the masses about Asthma. She is also the wonderfully creative artist who is painting my picture of the beach. I saw it for the first time yesterday and it is looking amazing !!!

Friday between 4 – 6 p.m. locals gather to sell all sorts of produce at the Farmer’s Market in Katikati.

New Zealand has a vast coastline and Kiwis make good use of it working to find food for their families. My fishing buddy is gathering pippies in the estuary where we launch his boat.

Katikati is known as Mural Town New Zealand. Not only do these wonderful artists fill the town with their creative works…they provide an art history of the region. When settlers arrived here they worked hard at building a life for themselves, and building the community that has become the wonderful town I live in today.

    Very nice photos. I had a bit of a laugh about you and your friend asking for a demonstration, that was brilliant. 🙂
    Where would we be today without these settlers that helped build so many towns. I love the idea of history murals being painted, and it looks like beautiful art work as well.

    1. Yep he did !!! He kept putting his hand out for it (I was using it to take pictures) and I thought he wanted to take a photo of me and my friend…but he stuck it in his pocket. All in fun I think, but it was icky getting it back with all that mud everywhere.

  9. When I was a kid we would pick cockles in the estuary (i never ate them mind you, they look like giant bogies to me!) but I think it’s mainly commercial picking now rather than people helping themselves to free food.
    Glad you got to see the paintings progress!

    1. I don’t eat them…too slimy for me. But it is fun searching for them.
      I can’t wait until she is finished. It already looks amazing to me and the colours are…wow !!!

  12. Love your sense of Humour Jo 😉 and I just had to click the link to Pippies as I hadnt heard of them before.. Sounds similar to our Razor Fish in long shells here along our coasts that go into the sandy mud. ..
    I hope you share your finished painting with us all soon.. xxx Sue

  14. Are pippies like minnows or anchovies? The guy in mud at the top…at first I thought it was a picture of some weird “action figure” LOL – I’m glad you got your phone back from him though. 🙂
