Weekly Photo Challenge: Unfocused

Last night Chevvy and I went for our daily walk later than usual – so that we could enjoy the SUPERMOON.

These shots are the ones that technically didn’t work because they are out of focus. But sometimes the imperfections are what makes them special. I personally love these shots…for their blurry look and the atmosphere that gives to them.

What do you think ???

We were in for a double treat as the sun tried to compete with a stunning sunset.

These were taken years ago in London.

The first is the original. I have found that even technically imperfect shots can sometimes become art.

I boosted the colour and used a glasstile horizontal distortion.

The focused shots of the Supermoon and sunset are here: New Zealand sky puts on the show of the year…

    1. Thanks Nia…I was sitting there looking out to the moon when I turned and there it was. One of the most spectacular sunsets I hav seen here. I like that one of London too.

  2. I love the out of focus in these photos. They look like beautiful watercolor paintings. Great choice for the challenge to show how something unfocused can be perfect forms of art. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Beautiful of course. You are a master of your trade.
My favorite is the one before the London pics. It demands attention. Plus, red is my favorite color!

  4. Hi Jo,
Some of the above photographs are very creative; especially the first London shot! My radar completely missed the super-moon event this year. Thanks to you I at least know that yesterday was a super moon event. Anyways, while I wait for you to upload your sharp “super-moon” photos, I would like to share a photo of the super-moon from 2011 here http://indranilsinharoy.com/photography/gallery-landscape/supermoon-3/
    Hope you will like it.
    Thank you.

  5. are these ever cool! i tried to capture the Super Moon from our back porch, my results don’t do it justice, but what an amazing phenomenon – both in its essence, and also in the fact that this is an experience we can share with bloggers from around our common home planet.

    1. Thanks !!! You are so right about what an amazing thing that we can all share what we experience. And I am sure your shots were good. I found it hard to do justice to it with my little point and shoot…but just decided to give it a go and at least I will always have them to remind me of sitting on the grass with Chevvy watching it unfold.

I really loved the out of focus shots…they seem to have something other worldy about them so I was thrilled with this theme.

    1. Oh what a shame. Thanks for the nice comment Jennifer…have to admit though that as cool as it was to see the supermoon…that sunset beat it hands down for me.

  7. The top one here is my favorite, I think. It has almost all the colors I love. I love how the out of focus gives them a softness…combined with the pastels and time of day, it makes for some pretty magical pictures. The London ones are neat – like the feel of that last one – reminds me of the hustle-bustle of big cities at night.

    1. Thanks…I like being able to rescue photos that technically aren’t perfect like the ones in London were. Digital photography can be so much fun.

  8. The Super Moon was a really wonderful sight here, that is when I finally got a glimpse.. As it was raining and cloudy.. but I got up past midnight and was rewarded with it shining from a space in the dark clouds…
