  1. Personally, I like the 2nd one the best. But I always go for odd perspectives and this shot has such an interesting perspective plus the color is so bright. But that’s just the humble opinion of a very amateur photography. LOL. 😀

    1. Humble ?? Never that. I am very much an amateur myself…but I know what I like – and what I don’t so your opinion is NEVER humble !!

  2. I like the second one – the ??palm leaf?? with the off center vanishing point. Both the second and third have a nice 3D look, but I find the asymmetric composition more interesting.

  3. I think they are all gorgeous pictures. Personally, I like the third one because I find the symmetrical look really cool. The focus is really nice too. But you should choose whichever one you like the best.

    1. Thanks…I will do that eventually, but I really like hearing what people like and why they like it. As well as the other way around. it is always good to see another’s persective because sometimes you are too close to notice it yourself.

      1. Well good luck on the contest! and i get what you mean. other peoples opinions can sometimes let you view your work differently too. At least for me. xD

  4. For on my wall, I’d definitely chose the first one. I LOVE Fall leaves and that picture of yours is incredible. But…for a picture that grows deeper discussion, the third one moves me the most. A leaf that leads you to talk about your path in life, about the ruts we find ourselves in, about the ravines in life that are really not as deep as we may think they are, etc…Jo…wow…and straight on like that feels daring to me. I dont know what judges look for so please take my opinion as just that. Wonderful pictures, Jo! Love to watch you stretch your wings, my friend!

    1. Oh Brynne – thank you. I love the way you see past the picture itself and deep in to the meaning. Just love it. I still sadly can’t seem to leave a comment on your blog – no idea why…it is very frustraing. So I may just have to start e-mailing you I think dear Brynne.

      1. so sorry about posting on my blog, Jo! I wish I could fix it! And as far as the ‘overexposure’ of the top picture…it reminds me of the sun kissing the leaves and I really really like that about it! Sometimes I think we see with our brains too much and not enough with the deeper parts of our selves. But then…maybe many judges see mainly with their brains, too:)

        1. Not to worry Brynne…hopefully one day it will work again.
          😉
I agree with ‘seeing with our brains too much’, and i love the way you see.

  5. I agree with the choice of the second image. It takes me some place when I look at it, and allows me to choose where that will be.

  6. The first image is way over exposed and therefore, lacks detail. This is especially noted at the top. Question: What is your main subject or focal point for the viewer?

The 2nd & 3rd image are not much better. There really is not anything in sharp focus. Again, there are blownout parts which are distracting.

Suggestion: Go to Jeff’s site and mine and look at our gallery images for ideas. Hope this helps?

    1. Thanks Rick – I really appreciate your taking the time to look at what I do. I am very much an amateur and having people comment and tell me what they really think about it…what works…what doesn’t…is great. It helps me to grow better I hope…well eventually anyway. Hehehe
I shall head on over once I get my internet problems sorted. At the moment it is difficult enough just to get anything on here let alone look at other sites.
      Thanks again…

  7. I think the third is the best photo because it could be more than a leaf. But my favourite is the first because of the colours, warmth and light. i would crop out the top two leaves though 😉

    1. Hey Gilly. I thought about that as well truthfully when I put it up (number 1). But I really wanted to hear what others thought because so often when you take a shot that speaks to you others don’t get it…and they love one that you are iffy about. It is all personal taste I know…but hearing it from everyone is a great way to learn I hope.

  8. I would choose the middle one, but it’s a bit of a toss up between the two last ones.
I love the idea of the first one, but it’s over exposed with large burned out areas. With a better exposure I’d love it.

  9. I also like the second one. I find the first one problematic; it lacks detail (I guess that is what other mean when they say it is overexposed).

  10. I like the symmetrical compostition of the third picture. Reminds me of a super-highway and I love the contrast of that against the palm leaf.

  11. Hi Jo. I think, if it were me, I’d submit the photo on the bottom. The colors are balanced. I like the way the bands are not the same, even so.

  12. This is a tough choice…but I’m leaning towards the second one. I like the angle and my eyes are drawn to something new each time I look at it.

  13. i think the first photo has too many blown out highlights, the third is too symetrical, the second has a nice diagonal leading lines and good exposure, just my two cents worth, MJ

  14. Hi,
I really like the first photo because I love the Autumn colours that the leaves show. 🙂
Thank You very much for your visit and comment.

  15. Out of these 3, I like the first one best because of the movement in it – it causes the viewer to go from one point in it to the next. But, out of all the leaf pictures you have done, I would submit the purple one (you know the one) because of the colors, pattern and movement in it. 🙂

    1. Would love to but can’t as you have to shot the theme challenge after they announce it – can’t be an old shot – as they want you to practise your skills.

    1. Hi Isobel – it has been really interesting to read people’s thoughts on which is better and why they think so. I am not sure anymore that I think any of them are actually up to going in to the challenge…but I thought it would be a great learning curve to hear whether others did and and why.
