New life…

My neighbour’s foxy has had puppies from another local foxy that roamed free here for a time. Yesterday I got to spend some time with them.

Though puppies are gorgeous and pull at your heart…I couldn’t help thinking of all the puppies and kittens who are born and abandoned because Mum wasn’t spayed.

These guys will get homes. They are luckier than many others.

Yet I can’t help thinking that they should not have been born. Had Mum been spayed as she should be.

I understand the pull to have baby animals…my kids wanted that too.

“Please Mum…can Chevvy/Jack have babies ?? Please, please Mum !!”

And I have to admit I would have adored having babies in the house…but I firmly resisted and both my girls were spayed. Charlie was also dealt to…and is none the worse for it…contrary to some male opinion on the subject !!!

We have indulged our passion for fur babies by fostering some of the abandoned fur babies often left on the door of the local vet clinic.

A part of me can’t help wishing more people did the same and reduced the number of babies born so that those that are stand a better chance of finding their forever homes and being a loved family member.

  1. I agree that animals should be spayed. Unless you really want a litter of puppies, kittens, bunnies, or whatever running around. There are simply too many animals already alive that need good homes. It is a shame to keep bring animals in the world only to have them starve or become neglected, or abused, in other ways. It is a lot cheaper to spay Momma, than Momma and a litter of offspring.

      1. Hopefully, your neighbors will learn by not getting Mom fixed, and get the puppies fixed before they too multiply. In the meantime, I hope all of the puppies find themselves in happy, loving, homes.

  2. I agree with all the spay and neuter stuff…but can’t resist to look and say…”awww, look at all those babies!”

    1. I know…but in case like this …where they can barely look after Mum…and she only got that way because she was out and a stray was around…THAT makes me sad and angry at the irresponsibility.

  3. They are very cute! I think even worse than letting pets breed all over the place is hot breeding of pedigree ‘trendy’ dogs until they are worn out just to make a fat profit 😦

    1. I so agree Gilly…there is a &%$&)#@ of a woman in our town who does that…I would like to stick her in a cage and mate her constantly so she pops out kids and then adopt them all out…see how she feels.

  4. I feel the same way. Baby animals are wonderful, but there are so many that get tossed aside and will never have a happy life. Both of my boys were dealt with and they seem just fine. I love that you foster animals. You have such a big heart Jo…don’t ever change.

    1. Awwwww…thank you. it is hard to give them up…I do get VERY attached, but it is worth it. I just get so angry that ANYONE can have pets and treat them with anything but love and respect.

  6. I totally agree about getting your pets spayed. There are a lot of animals who didn’t have luck in their first family waiting now in foster homes for a second shot and many “wild” born puppies who need a home. I own a former stray puppy from Greece and I would adopt one any time again. It isn’t all easy going and there were quite difficulties but even with a breed dog you can never know what you get.

    1. I agree. I have a purebred foxy who I adore like a crazy person but she can be very grumpy when it suits her. Most of the time she is a pushover but personalities are a funny thing. it is wonderful that you took in a stray puppy. It makes my insides warm when I hear that.

  7. Those are the cutest puppies I’ve seen in a long time. Can’t help but say “Awwwwwww!” in a high pitched voice. I know what you mean, though. I always spay and neuter my pets.

    1. Exactly Sue. I know that having a bunch of squirming fur babies sounds lovely…but I wish people would think of the long term.
Thank you so much for pushing the button – I really appreciate it.

  9. Oh aren’t they adorable!
Yes, I agree, too many people take on pets without thinking about what a long term commitment it is. They discard them when it’s not convenient. But here, we have an increasing problem of landlords not letting people have pets in rented properties and having to give them up.
