Stone # 18

‘Wait’, he calls to no-one who can hear

as they ride wave after imperfect wave,

a better one will come

the perfect ride

the slapping water tells him,

hours later he paddles ashore,

looking over the water

if tomorrow perfection would be as elusive

And here is a song/clip from the best surfing movie of my generation: Morning of the Earth

I’m taking part in the January 2012 River of Stones.

I was born in the land of Banjo Paterson, gum trees, and weather extremes. I am a freelance writer. I live in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, but still like to claim my Australian heritage. I graduated with a Bachelor of Communications in 2008. I am writing my first novel. I love to write poetry, short stories, and also write for the web. And there is nothing that is on a par with a sunny summer's day spent at Waihi Beach.

  1. I really like the photo in this one, Jo. The black and white gives such texture from the stark contrasts of the water/light. It almost looks like the rocks around it instead of waves/water…an illusion…much like the search for perfection… It’s also an excellent chronicle for your blog. 😉

There are two things I know for certain. One: Bert and Ernie are gay. Two: I want to hear your opinion.
