unsociable truths
buttoned up, muted
silentious racism,
hidden inconversable destruction,
daily decimation
as a voiceless world
watches close-mouthed,
evacuate these fields
hush its people
with restrained violence
noiseless vacuum
strike them dumb
’til they are voiceless,
their children curbed
into unsociable restraint

Due to technical difficulties (the bloody laptop died and is still dead) I was VERY late getting the letter S up – too late in fact. But in keeping to my plan I have written a letter S poem.

Yes, it’s difficult to decide when to speak and when to shut up. I did the latter recently, and I’m regretting it. see my blog on Thursday.

We must all find our voices to speak for those who are silenced. Thank you for this telling photo and poem.

Silence – not speaking out – is to me as bad as doing the deeds themselves. Sadly our societies tend to drive people to remain silent, stand apart, because we’ve taught them that they are powerless to help or to change.

Hi, Jo
Your powerful poem reminded me of this:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
I googled it to find the exact words. Your poem is very compelling, and these lines are particularly eloquent:
as a voiceless world
watches close-mouthed
