♫ Can you see what I see ?? ♫ – “My – Who I would bring back to…list.”

This laminated list is a wee bit different.

It consists of dead guys. Really, really hot, fascinating, talented, touched a place inside of me when they were alive, dead guys.

Maybe they were just too hot – many of their flames burnt them out before their time.

So I am calling it my “Who I would bring back to…list.”

Which is not really true.

I would want to talk to these guys. And listen.

Can you imagine the conversation that would occur across a dinner table ?

Swayze and Nureyev disseminating dancing techniques.

Bogie, Newman and Grasshopper discussing the future of Hollywood.

Michael, Freddie, Jim, Elvis, Jeff, and Marc having a jam session with their coffee and port.

They may be gone – but they are never forgotten – not in this house.

1. Patrick Swayze

The man had the most beautiful BIG hands in the world. The rest of him was pretty darn good as well, including his voice.

If they really do remake Dirty Dancing I am not watching it !!!

2. Freddie Mercury

I fell in love the moment I heard his voice. And look at those eyes.

His words are a poetic balm to my soul.

In The lap Of The Gods – Revisited

Words and music by Freddie Mercury

It’s so easy but I can’t do it
So risky but I gotta chance it
It’s so funny there’s nothing to laugh about
My money that’s all you want to talk about
I can see what you want me to be
But I’m no fool

It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la
I can see what you want me to be
But I’m no fool

No beginning there’s no ending
There’s no meaning in my pretending
Believe me life goes on and on and on
Forgive me when I ask you where do I belong
You say I (you can do it) can’t (you can do it
You can go and) set you free from me
But that’s not true

It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la
I can see what you want me to be
But I’m no fool
It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la wo
Wo wo la la wo wo wooh
But that’s not true
It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la wo
Wo wo la la wo wo wooh
But I’m no fool
It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la wo
Wo wo la la wo wo wooh
It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la wo
Wo wo la la wo wo wooh
But I’m no fool
It’s in the lap of the gods
Wo wo la la la wo
Wo wo la la wo wo wooh

If you want to know how crazy I am about Freddie – well this is from me to him – Divo.

To celebrate what would have been his 65th birthday – Happy Birthday Freddie.

3. Jim Morrison

Do I need to say anything ? In case I do – when I think of Jim – this is what comes to mind.

He was also a poet – after his death some of it was published.

The following is an untitled poem by Jim Morrison.

***

It was the greatest night of my life
Although I still had not found a wife
I had my friends right there beside me
Indians scattered on dawn’s highway bleeding
Ghosts crown the young child’s fragile eggshell mind
We scaled the wall
We tripped thru the graveyard
Ancient shapes were all around us
No music but the wet grass felt fresh beside the fog
Two made love in a silent spot
one chased a rabbit into the dark
A girl got drunk & made the dead
And I gave empty sermons to my head
Cemetery cool & quiet
Hate to leave
your sacred lay
Dread the milky coming of the day

4. Elvis

Hips people – hips, and lips, and eyes, oh – lets face it – the man is sex on two legs. Now I’m off to find a tissue to mop up the drool…

5. Jeff Buckley

One word – Hallelujah

The poet in me, well it loves the poet in him.

Grace – written by Buckley & Lucas

There’s the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Though it’s my time coming, I’m not afraid, afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time,
Of time

Wait in the fire…

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow,oh my love
And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain I might leave
Leave behind

Wait in the fire…

It reminds me of the pain I might leave
leave behind…

And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
But I’m not afraid to go but it goes so slow

Wait in the fire…

6. Bogie

He had style, he had grace…

7. Rudolf Nureyev

He turned me on to ballet – before Rudi – I thought all ballet dancers were weak pussies…then I saw HIM.

8. David Carradine

This grasshopper was welcome to eat my wheat field anytime he pleased.

9. Michael Hutchence.

Michael co-wrote this song with Andrew Farriss. Enough said.

Never tear Us Apart.

Don’t ask me
What you know is true
Don’t have to tell you
I love your precious heart

I……….I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

We could live for a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I’d make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
Cause we all have wings
But some of us don’t know why

I……….I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never…ever…tear us apart

I don’t ask me
I was standing
You know it’s true
You were there
Worlds collided
Two worlds collided
We’re shining through
And they could never tear us apart

You don’t ask me
You were standing
You know it’s true
I was there
Worlds collided
Two worlds collided
We’re shining through
And they could never tear us apart

10. Paul Newman

He is just smoking hot – married to the one woman all his life. Plus he was an actor, film director, entrepreneur, humanitarian, professional racing driver

11. Marc Bolan

Because I just wanna smoosh those beautiful cheeks – well first at least.

Ride A White Swan

by Marc Bolan

Ride it on out like a bird in the skyway,
Ride it on out like you were a bird,
Fly it all out like an eagle in a sunbeam,
Ride it all out like you were a bird.

Wear a tall hat like the druid in the old days
Wear a tall hat and a Tattooed gown
Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane,
Wear your hair long, babe, you can’t go wrong.

Catch a bright star and place it on your forehead,
Say a few spells and baby, there you go,
Take a black cat and sit it on your shoulder,
And in the morning you’ll know all you know.

Wear a tall hat like the druid in the old days
Wear a tall hat and a Tattooed gown
Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane,
Wear your hair long, babe ,you can’t go wrong.

Da di di da, da di di d

*

Ride A White Swan was T-Rex’s first hit single.

It is in the film Billy Elliot.

At Marc’s funeral a large swan floral tribute was amongst the flowers.

I was just looking at the preview and something went ‘aaahhh’ in my little grey cells.

These guys all have really, really…

          1. It is an amazing piece of work and she has more. Ahhhhh – if I was rich I would be in a lot of trouble…
            The Homecoming
            Going Home
            Elvis Eternal
            Blessed Peace
And they are for sale…not sure how many countries you’d need to sell to have enough money to buy them though !

  1. Wow, I feel like I learned a lot about you just from reading this list and your thoughts! Really interesting stuff. If Kevin Costner was dead would I be safe in assuming he would be on this list?

Don’t say those words in the same sentence – I feel sick now.
      2
Kevin will have a list all his own – alive.
      3
There is so much to put on that list – well it is taking a while
      4
I must do the man justice after all.

It can’t be just any old post for our Kevin.

  2. What a great topic you’ve chosen to write about. Found myself saying, ‘yep, yep, yep…’ at most of them. I love charismatic people and that’s what they all had, in bucket loads. That Elvis portrait has got me all hot and bothered, not seen that before and not seen something else in that pic for a long time either!

    1. Oh you’re not the only one. I had palpitations doing the research for this one. Especially watching the videos. Michael Hutchence drives me wild with lust – well they all do. But they all fascinate me on an intellectual level as well.

I may need a heart monitor when I get around to putting Kevin’s one together…

      1. By the way Jo, you saying this “But they all fascinate me on an intellectual level as well.” Had me laughing with evil glee. 🙂

        1. Really Sara – you – evil glee – never would have thought. Hehehe
Seriously though…look at them…stunning as their minds were…how could you not, well, think of the other obvious attractions first.
          😉

There are two things I know for certain. One: Bert and Ernie are gay. Two: I want to hear your opinion.
