Short stories are great.
Writing a short story can be harder than trying to finish that 50,000 word novel.
The art is in being able to have a complete tale in a few hundred or thousand words, while still leaving the reader with a feeling of completeness.
There are many great and famous short story writers:
- Katherine Mansfield
- Raymond Carver
- Roald Dahl
- Stephen King
- Leo Tolstoy
are just a few.
One day I hope to be counted amongst them.
I hope that you enjoy the ones on offer.

Hey there… you recommended a new book a few weeks back and I have can’t remember the title and can’t find it. Could you send me the link again please
Thanks

Yes I think it is specualtuion…. thanks so much
Congratulations on your successful blog–and thank you so much for checking out my humble little burgeoning one, and Liking my Travel Theme: Red photography post!! *Following* your beautiful blog now. I look forward to perusing your site further. I too am a writer, both fiction and nonfiction, and I TOTALLY agree that it can be harder to finish a short story than a novel. I’ve completed 6 fiction novels, and parts of several nonfiction ones, and a handful of decent short stories, and I’d much rather write an 80,000-word novel than a 10,000-word short story! It’s just the kind of writer I am, I guess–novels are my raison de’tre =)

WOW…6 fiction novels. I am impressed. I am still working on the first. So glad you’re following. I really appreciate you doing that.
Oh, and since you’re a writer, I think you’ll especially appreciate this post of mine, about incredible novelist and human being John Irving:
